Do you remember what it was like to have a deep sleep, filled with relaxing dreams? It is so deep that when you are rudely woken up by your alarm clock, it is quite difficult to get out of bed. If you have this every night fantastic! For some of us, we have mild sleep problems which range from a few broken nights and for others we can go for several nights with no sleep at all.

Did you know that Oxford University researchers found that poor sleep quality, led to decreased brain volume. Further studies by the neurology department of the Rockefeller University, concluded that chronic sleep deprivation led to increased risk of Alzheimers and Diabetes.(1)

I have tried all of these over the years and they do help. When I was going through a particularly long period of sleep problems I would use these remedies plus homeopathic remedies to deal with the cause of the poor sleep. Which was usually Anxiety.To encourage a deep restful sleep eliminate all light sources before you go to sleep(even the tiniest whisper of light eg a mobile phone or alarm clock) and allow an hour to read a spiritual or uplifting book (watching TV stimulates the brain) before going to sleep.

Try A Sleep Mantra

I wanted to share with you a mantra that I discovered. It is written by the Barefoot Doctor. The idea is that you are letting your subconscious know that it is time to go to sleep and dream. You are also asking your subconscious to remember the dream. You will need to recite this 3 times before you go to sleep and if you wake up continue reciting this until you fall asleep again. When I have tried this I have remembered the dream and re-entered it. The mantra is ‘I can dream, I can remember my dream, I can recall my dream when I wake up’

Drinking Chamomile tea

This wonderful herb helps calm the nervous system, reduce muscle spasms and aid digestion. I use Chamomile and Spearmint tea when I have trouble sleeping and enjoy a deep sleep.

Avena Sativa

This Bach Flower essence is made from wild oat straw. It is beautiful for helping to calm the nervous system and keep you asleep.

Or Try Passionflower (Passiflora) tea

This herb is made from the flower passionflower. It’s sedative qualities also help relieve anxiety and tension without the sleep hangover.

Alternatively you can try Verbena (Vervain)tea

This amazing herb helps relaxes the mind and strengthens the nervous system. It can also help tone the liver.
