I found this really interesting recipe in a blog for Lavender Lemonade, to reduce Anxiety. I have been growing Lavender in my garden for several years now. In the height of Summer passers by always stop and are seduced into taking a sprig to inhale. What a wonderful gift. Can Lavender Oil Help Anxiety and Depression? Researchers at Kings College London found that exposing dental patients to the scent of Lavender Oil before their surgery, reduced their Anxiety (1). Dr Taehan Kanho Hakhoe Chi from Keukdong College of Nursing in Korea, found the fragrance of Lavender, had a positive effect on the Insomnia and Depression of the college nurses in his study.(2)
Living in the UK with the changes in weather, I am not sure about making Lemonade but you can collect some Lavender blossoms and create an infusion in boiling water and drink it as a tea. In this way you can gain the calming effects on breathing it in, as you take a sip. Bees are also a lover of lavender blossom. As their populations are in decline, it is a good way to encourage more bees in the garden. If you do not have Lavender in the garden you can always buy Lavender tea from a good quality Health Food Shop.
A few drops of Lavender essential oil can be added to sweet almond oil and used as a perfume. If you are having a particularly stressful day, you can add a few drops to a Room Fragrance Diffuser. My favourite, is sinking into a hot bath with a good book, some bubbles and the wafting scent of Lavender calming my soul. Pure luxury!
A single drop of Lavender essential oil can also be used for minor burns, cuts and insect bites. With my children I dilute it in warm water.
Lavender Oil Helps Reduce Anxiety and Depression but, are there any other Essential Oils which can help Anxiety?
Jasmine essential oil can also lift your mood reducing your stress and anxiety. This sensual oil has been used for thousands of years as a major component of love potions and perfumes due to its aphrodisiac qualities. I love jasmine green tea and find it very relaxing. It can also be used in a Room Fragrance diffuser and a few drops added to sweet almond oil as a perfume. A few drops in a hot bath can also help relieve a cough and a cold.
This is a another beautiful essential oil which can uplift you when you are feeling low. The essential oil is extracted from the flowers that grow on the Bergamot tree that grows to 16 feet high. It comes from Italy and is named after the town Bergamo. If you have anxiety with sleep problems, Bergamot can help you relax and fall asleep. In a similar way to the above essential oils, it can be used as in a Room Fragrance Diffuser or a few drops in a warm bath before you go to sleep.
My favourite essential oil for Anxiety is Jasmine, which one is yours?
